We were able to come down for the weekend but not much else. When we got here we discovered that this was the time for the annual shrimp festival so we figured we might as well check it out while we were down here. We didn’t get much work done on the boat but we did see several beautiful sunsets while we were here this time.

This photo was taken on our boat from the slip just as the sun set over the gulf. It is amazing we can still be out here in relatively warm weather in mid-October but we will take it.

Can you see me doing the happy dance? Well, I am. We are headed to the boat this weekend for some long overdue R&R. I have been going through ocean breeze and sand between the toes withdrawal. We may even get to do some outside sprucing up of the boat, which we haven’t been able to do in the last few months because it has been so bloody hot here in the southern United States. We are leaving Blazer at the doggie condo (vet) so he can visit with his kennel friends. Since Aubie passed away Blazer has been seriously lacking in dog company.
Tonight will be a long night as I have to upload the next hint for the Secret of the Stole KAL for tomorrow and we will be on the road tomorrow. Can you say “is it midnight yet?”? Oh well, I am so excited about putting the next hint up that I probably wouldn’t sleep anyway. Besides, Florida State plays Wake Forest in football and the first game of the NLCS is on as well. I will get in some serious knitting time tonight.
In my other “job” I came across a really neat quotation book and, in the spirit of college football season, I will leave you all with this one for the week:
The difference between a successful person and others is not a lack of strength, not a lack of knowledge, but rather a lack in will.

We spent a long weekend at the boat recently and realized that the air conditioning was not working properly. Scott proceeded to check out the wiring and found out the the water pump that pumps in sea water to cool the unit was not working. Luckily the previous owner had bought one and never installed it. So, after much sweat and a few tense moments wondering if the seacocks were really closed or not it was time to test the unit. It works beautifully now and this past weekend we spent at the boat we stayed inside through the hottest part of the day and it was wonderful.

This is the first more involved “correction” to the existing systems on the boat but it was one of the most rewarding. This unit that the owner installed is a compact sailboat unit (had to cost a fortune) that also runs a heater in the winter. This has made for a much more comfortable summer in the gulf coast area.

We have not had much time to spend at the boat since we moved it, but the time we do get to come down is enjoyable to say the least. The weather was not cooperating with us today but it turned out to reveal the most beautiful rainbow while Scott was fishing on the dock just off our bow.
The storms lasted most of the afternoon and then cleared up just as the sun was setting. The wind was blowing in gusts around 35-45 knots with frequent lightening. We met another boat that comes in the next day from Mobile bay that had been struck by lightening several times blowing a good bit of their electronics and their batteries.

You can see Scott is still in his rain gear (and hat) but was ready to catch some fish. The not so little guy below stuck very close to Scott’s side waiting to see if Scott was actually going to catch him some dinner. It was not to be, but he did smile for the camera.

You would have to know us personally to know how big of a deal this really is, as we rarely “get together” with anyone, but it happened to be that on this weekend Scott’s parents were vacationing down on Alabama’s Gulf Coast and came over for a visit. They had never seen the boat before and we enjoyed a quick visit with them before we all went out to dinner.

Here is DK watching to see if my dad is actually going to make it on the boat with me or step right into the drink. Looks like he made it. We were very impressed that Scott’s mom decided to come on board. She is not comfortable on boats of any size and we really appreciated her effort.
